What makes you more qualified than your opponent?
I have a wealth of experience in public education, transportation, city government and the political process and I would be ready from day one as a state representative to represent House District 30 citizens. I am the best qualified person for this position.
Should the state revisit sentencing restrictions to reduce prison spending?
Yes, if we can reduce the cost of prisons it would allow necessary state funds to go to other high needed areas in the state.
Would you support an expansion of the state’s public school voucher program?
No, a voucher program would take public funding away from public schools and hurt the public educational system in Colorado.
Should Colorado pursue a four-day work week for state employees as a way of conserving energy and reducing energy bills?
It would need a serious assessment to determine if would actually conserve energy and not hurt state provided services.
With so many state “entitlements,” such as Medicaid and public schools, how can the state best increase spending on roads, bridges and other transportation projects?
SAFE Colorado offers the best opportunity to develop a public education emergency fund with surplus funds and reprioritize the state budget to meet other state needs.
Should the state increase taxes on gas and oil production in Colorado?
Yes, we should no longer subsidize oil companies that are making record profits. There are too many unmet needs in the state for tax money to go to oil and gas companies.
How do you think Colorado unions would see you as a candidate? Pro-union or anti-union?
Pro-union. I think labor unions provide a good contrast for the business world to measure up to in providing fair wages, benefits and working conditions for working men and women in Colorado.
Above all, what one thing should the state do to improve student performance in public schools?
Make sure all communities are able to offer full employment for their citizens and adequate vocational and technical training.
Should the state convene a constitutional convention to investigate resolving budget problems with TABOR, Amendment 23 and the Gallagher Amendment?
I think the passage of SAFE would be very helpful to the process and hopefully a constitutional convention would not be necessary.
How would you judge the performance so far of Gov. Bill Ritter?
He has led the way for Colorado to become a leader in energy technology that will vastly improve the economy in Colorado. I think he has a comprehensive vision for Colorado that will improve the lives of all citizens in Colorado. |
